Inspector Toolbelt Series - Not Enough Cameras

Hey, this is Jon with Two Moose Home Inspections and welcome to the Inspector Toolbelt Series. Today's video will center around cameras and how important they are to the home inspector.

Since a home inspection is visual by nature it's very important for me to be able to show to you what it is that I am seeing, so one of the things that I use is my iPad and I use my iPad not only to track what I'm finding that is wrong inside the house but additionally I'm using the camera to take pictures throughout the entire time.

Now one of the things that you'll notice that is on the bottom of my camera is a thermal camera now the interesting thing about thermal cameras is that, one, they're very portable nowadays which is extremely impressive and two, the price point has come down considerably and so all that you need is this little thing here that can plug into your Android or iOS device and what it's able to do is take thermal images of whatever it is you want to look at so if we think that we might have a water leak we can see that difference in temperature, if there might be missing insulation we can see that difference in temperature, if we want to make sure that the in-floor radiant heat is working we can see that difference in temperature, this thermal camera is absolutely amazing and highly recommended and if you aren't getting an inspection with thermal I don't think you're getting the real deal. I can't even explain to you how important it is to have thermal, anyway that's a rant, so the next thing that I have is this borescope.

Now the cool thing about this borescope is one it's long but that really doesn't matter too much what I'm actually using this thing for is going inside of furnaces and flues and other things like that to be able to take pictures and this borescope is really really cool and just absolutely perfect for that. On the borescope I have the ability to press a button so that way I can take a picture right then and there, and it goes directly to my iPad and I don't even have to worry about a thing.

Now what I do with every single home inspection is I take 360 camera pictures and what those pictures are, are taken by this device right here and this little device here is able to take a whole entire sphere around itself and it actually disappears inside the picture what this allows you is the homeowner to do or as the buyer to do is to take a look at the space that you are in and be able to see everything that is around you everything that was, everything that is, and so that way if you have a question and you say what was going on in this corner I don't remember this dent being here I don’t remember that scratch, I'm pretty sure that there was a smart thermostat that costs hundreds of dollars inside this house and now it's missing or they promised me if the furniture would be here or if I'm out of town or out of state and I can't come and I've never seen the house but I'm an investor and I want to make sure that it's meeting my expectations you can basically do a virtual tour with the pictures that I take. This 360 camera is phenomenal and I can see it right here on my iPad and I can turn up down left right and zoom into anything.

These cameras are basically the core of my inspection business without these cameras I don't think that I'd be able to provide you as a customer as good of a report as I'm able to provide thanks to this technology. I'm able to bring my expertise into your report in a way that you can clearly understand.
